Naraka Chaturdashi is the second day of five days Diwali celebrations. The first being Dhanteras, second is Narak Chaturdashi , third is Diwali, fourth day is Govardhan and fifth day is Bhai Dooj. According to Hindu legends, Kali (the Goddess of power) killed Narakasura on this day. The day is celebrated in order to eradicate laziness and evil from the life.
Naraka Chaturdashi is a Hindu festival which is usually observed in the months of October or November. However, Naraka Chaturdashi in 2014 will be observed on Wednesday, 22nd October. The main ritual of Naraka Chaturdashi is to wake up early morning (before Sunrise), apply ‘Ubatan’ (a mix of herbs, oil, flowers and other essential ingredients) and take bath. It is said that the person who fails to do so, goes straight to hell. Narak Chaturdashi day is also known as Choti Diwali, Kali Chaudas, Roop Chaturdashi and Roop Chaudas. |
