The Hindu Friday Review November Festival
November 17-22, 2009
The Hindu Friday Review November Fest is now five years old. As before, this year’s Fest brings genres of music to Chennai that are novel and interesting.
We present six back-to-back concerts this year from November 17-22, 2009. We begin with a unique concert by Abida Parveen from Pakistan, who sings in five languages and is one of the most renowned Sufi musicians in the subcontinent. Our next concert is a Hindustani vocal presentation by Pandit Channulal Mishra from Varanasi, one of the finest Indian exponents in presenting a mix of the Punjab and Benares gayaki.
From Australia arrive the James Ryan Quartet with electrifying jazz, followed by a unique concert devoted to the Songs of Surdas by O.S. Arun and Sanjeev Abhyankar. From Korea, we have the explosive and innovative Gong Myoung, which promises to have you riveted with their contemporary sound. And for the finale, we have Osibisa, a name that still resonates from the time they stormed the world with their brand of Afro-rock.
Tickets are priced at Rs. 600, Rs. 350 and Rs. 200. Season passes are available for Rs.3,000, Rs.1,750 and Rs.1,000.
